About us

Fraunhofer ISC opens up the potential of innovative materials for tomorrow’s products, focusing in particular on efficient and safe energy use, sustainable utilization of resources, affordable health care and novel solutions for information and communication technologies (ICT). Apart from new and enhanced materials, we are also developing the entire technologies, and the design of manufacturing processes tailored to specific production environments. We develop and license superior materials based on polymers, polymer composites, metal-oxides and inorganic-organic hybrid materials (ORMOCER®s) and the corresponding process techniques. These materials are adaptable for various applications and can be used on flexible displays, wafers, on foils in roll-to-roll process schemes, on backplanes or on individual optical components. They are characterized by widely adjustable optical and (di)electric properties and by outstanding thermal, chemical and mechanical stabilities.

Flexible display with printed piezoelectric touch sensors realized by hybrid polymer dielectrics and printable ferro-electrical polymers.

Microprisms Arrangement

Logo of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC consisting of 10.000 microprisms fabricated by femtosecond laser-based additive manufacturing (two-photon polymerization). The individual prisms redirect incoming light and can be used as light in- and outcoupling structures. Geometry of a single prism: height = 30 µm, size = 60 µm. The lateral pitch of the individual prisms is 75 µm.

Diffractive Optical Element (DOE)

Diffractive Optical Element (DOE) made by using Two-Photon Polymerization (2PP). As 2PP is a true 3D micropatterning technology, continuous-level DOE can be fabricated with free choice of pixel height, pixel count and pixel size. The depicted DOE is made of hybrid polymer which is specially designed for optical applications and can be replicated for mass production.
